The idea behind the series is that our monthly guests make a selection of tunes that are essential to them in one way or another, past or present. This mix/podcast gives them the opportunity to show us a part of their love for music we didn’t know of and didn’t expect. We certainly don’t want them to stick to one genre, anything goes. And as you can imagine it is a hard task to do this in only one hour… Listen and enjoy!
First one to start off is Ghent based dubstep dj/producer/promoter GAZ. The man behind the already 3 year running ROTATION concept at Decadance club started spinning in 2003/2004, mainly drum’n’bass as V-Gaz. The switch to dubstep came naturally for him as drum’n’bass didn’t gave him the kicks he needed anymore. Throughout the years GAZ became one of the better known djs in the Belgian dubstep scene and played at most of the well known parties. Next to spinning he’s putting his musical ideas in his own tunes. As a producer he’s balancing through the whole spectrum of modern bass music. May will see his first release, a collab with Geeks, on the Belgian INHALE AUDIO label.
As a youngster GAZ was already making compilation cds and swapped them with his mates. He also discovered the record collection of his parents. Some of the 7 inches selected in his podcast actually come from that collection! GAZ will never stick to one genre, his musical hunger is way too big for that. Most of the people may know him as a dubstep dj but there is more than that. That’s why he also started the NACHTLAWAAI concept with some friends. For this monthly night, djs dig deep in their record collection and bring a selection they probably never played for an audience before.
