After 12 is opnieuw te gast bij Democrazy en zorgt voor een onvergetelijke avond met groovy house/sub music-DJ’s Mosca en Ben UFO.

Londenaar Mosca heeft er een schitterend jaar opzitten. Engelse dj’s Gilles
Peterson, Mary Anne Hobbs en Benji B katapulteerden hem naar grote bekendheid. Wat begon op piratenradio’s, Rinse FM en Deja Vu FM leidde hem ook hier naar grotere bekendheid: zijn track ‘Bax’ was één van de meest aanstekelijke dancefloor anthems van het jaar. Mosca’s nummers zijn gemaakt om de dansvloer te veroveren, maar zijn tegelijk zeer gesofisticeerd opgebouwd met invloeden uit grime, uk bass, garage, funk, hiphop en soulvolle house. November jl. kwam zijn ep ‘The wavey’ uit. De alternatieve muziekliefhebbers kennen hem ongetwijfeld ook via de remixes voor Four
Tet en Foals of via releases op 3024, Hypercolour en Ghost House.

Ben Ufo (Ben Thomson) is een van de meest veelzijdige Dj’s van het moment. Samen met Pangaea en Pearson Sound (Ramadanman) richtte hij het Hessle Audio Label op. Terwijl die twee zich al uitstekende producers toonden, maakt Ben Ufo enkel als DJ naam, zonder de wereld van producers te willen binnentreden. Een uitstekende keuze zo blijkt, want de piraatradio en record label Rinse vroeg hem -in navolging van o.a. Roska en Youngsta- voor de alweer 16e editie van hun befaamde DJ-mixes Rinse 16. Met deze mix verzamelt Ben UFO de meest vooruitstrevende, vreemde en futuristische elektronische muziek van de laatste tijd op één plaatje. Een uitstekend naslagwerk voor wie houdt van bassy house music! Op dit album bewijst hij zich opnieuw als uitstekende mixmaster die als geen ander de crème de la crème uit de vinylkast weet te selecteren en oud en nieuw naadloos op elkaar laat aansluiten. Jungle, Blue Note jazz, techno en garage, je kunt het allemaal voorbij horen komen!

Sleeper & District begonnen collaboratief samen te werken in 2010. Allebei met de focus op het creeëren van de diepere kanten van Dubstep. Na veel airplay te krijgen op de welgekende UK radiozender “Rinse FM” door Dubstep dons zoals Youngsta & Distance, besloot Distance ze te signen op zijn label ‘Chestplate’. Nu behoren ze tot de Chestplate familie met ondere andere grote namen als Cyrus en Tunnidge.

Headliner of the evening is dubstep pioneer TES LA ROK. This Finland originated dj / producer was one of the first international names who made it in the scene. With releases on Argon, Dub Police, Biscuit Factory and his own Noppa label he developed his own style and sound throughout the years. The summer of 2011 saw the release of his full album “Them”. To promote this release Tes La Rok is touring intensively. Next stop: Kortrijk!

Off course we have SCIENCE on the bill. This producer / dj duo from Antwerp provides the first release on the new label with Blow Up and Spellbound. They are not to their spurs. With releases on Untitled, Subway and Stainage their tunes have been picked up by key players in the international dubstep scene. In their dj sets they bring a combination of deep, dark vibes with more uplifting tunes and classics from the genre.

DREADLESS is an “ancien” from the Lille underground scene. Started as drum’n'bass and jungle dj his style evolved more to garage and dubstep in the recent years. As a promoter he is behind different concepts in the northern French nightlife. He is also working on the weekly “Unlike Sessions’ radio show on RCV fm.

Democrazy: AFTER 12

Voor de derde maal is het dubstepcollectief After 12 te gast in de Balzaal van Vooruit. In 2007 prijkte Mala al op de affiche. Na 4 jaar werd het tijd om deze absolute pioneer van het dubstep genre nog eens uit te nodigen. Samen met Coki en Loefah vormt hij Digital Mystikz en hij is de labelbaas van Deep Medi (zie ook Silkie, Kromestar, Loefah, Goth Trad en Skream). Zijn dj sets kenmerken zich door een diep geluid met een sterke invloed van dub en reggae. Mala staat nog altijd overtuigend voor hoe dubstep moet klinken: donker, bevreemdend en een tikkeltje onheilspellend.

Tweede headliner is UK funky grondlegger Roska. Dit genre kan het best omschreven worden als garage/2step bestuifd met Afrikaanse en Caraïbische ritmes. Begonnen als MC in de Londense garage scene evolueerde ROSKA tot een ervaren dj en producer. In 2009 krijg hij zijn eigen show op Rinse.fm, dé referentie voor alles wat UK bass minded is. Zijn carriere kreeg hierdoor een enorme boost en verschillende releases en remixes op oa Rinse, Tectonic, Numbers en zijn eigen Kick&Snares label volgden.Op enkele van deze releases werkte hij samen met zanger Jamie George. Deze “melodic storyteller” zal ook aanwezig zijn op deze After 12 editie voor een exclusieve performance!

De Belgische kleuren worden deze keer vertegenwoordigd door Primate en Digid. Primate, het dubstep alter ego van Wasp, is het brein achter het Hasseltse LOOP concept. DIGID heeft releases uit op Rest In Beatz en Bass Punch en is onlangs getekend op het nieuwe Warriorz label. Samen opereren ze ook als duo onder hun UNDERTONE moniker.

After 12 residents van dienst zijn Imune, Lucky7, Mate en Fudge.

The Gaslamp Killer is a Los Angeles-based DJ whose electric style ranges from psychedelia and world music to dubstep and left-field hip-hop. He has received global acclaim for his magnificent turntable skills and larger-than-life … (more) stage presence. Associated with Flying Lotus’ Brainfeeder Records, he made his production debut in the late 2000s with a series of EPs.

Born William Benjamin Bensussen, he originally comes from San Diego, CA, whose downtown Gaslamp District’s bar scene inspired him to name himself the Gaslamp Killer in disgust for much of the patronage.Upon relocating to Los Angeles, he found a niche for himself amid the city’s massive underground party scene and ultimately found a home for himself as a resident DJ at the club Low End Theory, which resulted in a series of club-sponsored podcasts.

He also released a series of mix CDs, among them Gaslamp Killers (2003), It’s a Rocky Road (2007), I Spit on Your Grave (2008), Hell and the Lake of Fire Are Waiting for You! (2009), and All Killer (2009), the latter a label showcase for the London-based world psychedelia imprint Finders Keepers Records. As a producer, the Gaslamp Killer made his debut in the late 2000s, releasing a split EP with Free the Robots, “The Killer Robots,” on Obey Records in 2008 and two EPs for Flying Lotus’ Brainfeeder Records, My Troubled Mind in 2009 and The Death Gate in 2010. He also produced Gonja Sufi’s debut album “A Sufi And A killer” on Warp in 2010.

Described as “one of the most special and unique artists to come out of the UK” by Hyperdub first lady Ikonika, Manchester’s Illum Sphere has had a busy time since his debut ‘The Incoming EP’ landed in 2009 on hometown label, Fat City. Winning the BBC 1xtra Urban Music Award, invitations to play at LA institution Low End Theory (the second English person to do so after Mary Anne Hobbs) and last year’s Red Bull Music Academy in London, through to remix requests from Martyn, Kuedo, Zed Bias and Warp Records, he has already become one the UK’s most hotly tipped producers, whilst remaining outside the London hype machine. Add to that the gleaming praise given by all those that play his groundbreaking Hoya:Hoya night in Manchester, an EP on Martyn’s 3024 imprint and a release on Pinch’s Tectonic label, support from Radiohead front man Thom Yorke, Mary Anne Hobbs, Benji B and Brainfeeder’s Gaslamp Killer, Lorn, Ras G and Daedelus, Illum Sphere cemented his place among the world’s underground music elite.
